My name is George. I was born in Serbia but I have lived most of my life in New Zealand. I have been in Kazakhstan for two years. This will be my third year teaching EAP at Nazarbayev University.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a Master’s in teaching English as a foreign language (TESOL) from the University of Auckland. Prior to coming to NU, I lived in Vladivostok, Russia where I taught English at a university. I met my wife while living in Russia and we now have a young daughter, who was born here. I have also taught at a private school in South Korea and at several different places in New Zealand.
My number one hobby is basketball. I represented my province in various age group teams and my dream as a kid was to play in the NBA. I don’t play competitively any longer, but I still enjoy watching the sport. I frequently go to watch Astana play in the VTB league. Other than that, I also enjoy reading science fiction books. I would say Isaac Asimov is my favorite author.
I really enjoy living and teaching here. Kazakhstan has been a really interesting country for me to discover. So far I have been to Almaty, Uralsk, Karaganda, Borovoe and of course Nur-Sultan. I really look forward to visiting more places, especially Shymkent and Aktau and I also appreciate the opportunity to teach such talented and hardworking students from all over the country.
