I grew up in a small town in Upstate New York. There were only 70 students in my high school graduating class. My first job was working in the family’s steak and seafood restaurant. I was fortunate to gain a scholarship for my Bachelor’s Degree. I attended the State University of New York at Oswego and studied Art with a focus on Ceramics, Fiber Construction and Stained-Glass Sculpture. On weekends and during summer vacations, I would wait on tables: a kosher hotel in the far north of the Catskills, a Quaker Hotel in the Catskills and a golf resort in the Poconos.
Upon completion of my BA, I traveled through Europe. When I returned to the US, I decided that a Masters in TESOL would be a means to build on dual certification to teach English and Art K-12 in New York State. I studied at SUNY Albany. My resume reads, chronologically, the ELSC at the College of St Rose in Albany, Zayed University in Dubai, the University College of Jubail in KSA, the Australian College of Kuwait in Kuwait City, Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi, Bilkent University in Ankara, and Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, Florida.
I arrived in August, 2019 to Nazarbayev University and I consider all of the above to be stepping stones along the way to NurSultan. I look forward to the 2020-21 year. May it be a year of learning about Kazakhstan and honing our skills in online teaching and learning. I enjoy reading, particularly historical fiction, non-fiction and current events.
