I am from New Zealand, and 2020-21 will be my 3rd academic year with NUFYP. After gaining my first English language teaching qualification, the Cambridge CELTA, I taught in Spain. I then taught for many years in Indonesia, and was also an IELTS examiner. I moved into EAP teaching after completing a Masters in Applied Linguistics from Victoria University, Wellington, New Zealand. Among the reputable academics I studied under was Dr. Averil Coxhead, who co-wrote the ‘AWL’ (Academic Word List). Before I came to Kazakhstan, I taught on foundation year programs at universities in Tasmania and Sydney, Australia, and in China. I have also taught on pre-sessional courses for a scholarship program, with Indonesians students who studied EAP before going to Australia to do a degree. My favourite hobby is surfing, when I have the chance, and I have been lucky enough to surf at some of the most famous places, mostly in Indonesia. I also enjoy music and used to play bass in a band in New Zealand, though nowadays I just listen to music.
